  9. \b0 Situated on the furthermost west side of the Delta, Alexandria was built
  10.  by Alexander the Great in 331 B.C., just after his arrival in Egypt. \par
  11. The city of Alexandria was monumental and imposing, with a grid of wide streets and a central thoroughfare. \par
  12. It  was dominated by the splendid Temple of Pan, built on a podi
  13. um in the Eastern tradition, with an avenue winding round up to it. \par
  14. The famous library contained the biggest collection of books of the ancient world. \par
  15. It was attached to the Museum, that is the academy and the seminary for scientific and lite
  16. rary scholarship that acted as a centre that gave rise to studies in philology, criticism, physical and mathematical sciences, philosophy and medicine.
